Author's Commentary #788:

Time to talk about Chapter 788: Salty jobber.
Despite the chapter's short length, I feel this is one of the chapters I struggled the most to write. First off, I've changed up the brackets by having Xiao Lin and Aigul and Yuusuke and Yumehara switch brackets. This means Sir Kit will now play the loser of the Yumehara-Yuusuke game, while Jadwiga plays whoever loses the game between Aigul and Xiao Lin.

This shakeup is the main reason I struggled with this chapter. I've also decided to swap out Yumehara with Sir Grobhand, who is a far more memorable character, and more fun to write. As for the game, it was originally going to be longer, but I shortened it to get the chapter out. Even in the longer game, Bruno would still win, even after the Sodium Attack is played against him.

With my second contest entry taking a lot of wind out of my sails, I will go on record to say I might need to bring back Mr. Filler for a few chapters, as I do want these Jobber-off games to be good. Since I want to get my second contest entry done, I'll be prioritizing that, so I hope you can understand. I'll still try to write for this arc.

A few editing suggestions. First, I'd get rid of the asterisks as I found them to be a bit immersion breaking, especially in the "How many people do I have to meet" line. Second, when introducing Kazusa, maybe refer to her instead as the "oldest of Naomi's younger siblings", rather than just "the oldest of Naomi's siblings", just so no one thinks she's actually Naomi's older sister.

Iori's morality will be explored frequently throughout the series. As for Yuusuke, he still has a ways to go. He was lucky Zanni got too greedy, otherwise he would have been toast. Well, he might still be toast as there's no way he can beat or draw against Gyro.

Yup, the big early twist I've been waiting to see people react to is that Iori is actually a psychopath. And not just any psychopath, a highly intelligent one. Her current rating does not reflect her true strength. Yuusuke on the other hand is just a normal guy. He'll have to hope for a miracle to escape Zanni.
