Author's Commentary #52:
Time to talk about Chapter 52: Talent scouting.
Once again, events in the remake are being shuffled around. This time, I've decided to include the chapter for minor characters, Onrai and Maju in Season 1. The reason will be made much more clear when the Season 1 finale rolls around which won't be very long. Anyway, let's talk about Onrai and Maju.
道萱 恩來 (Michigaya Onrai) is how Onrai's name is spelled in kanji. 恩來 means "compassion" and "to come" while 道萱 means "road" and "reed".
His birthday is February 3rd, which is also to day the first chapter of Sentai Daishikaku was released. The reason for that is because Onrai was heavily inspired by the character Chidori from said series.
His favorite food is spaghetti and meatballs.
道萱 舞雛 (Michigaya Maju) is how Maju's name is spelled in kanji. 舞雛 means "dance" and "fledgling".
As for her stage-name, 幻 魔法 (Mahoro Maho) is how it is spelled in kani. 幻 means "illusion" while 魔法 means "magic" so her stage-name essentially means "illusion magic".
(If I made any mistakes with the translations, feel free to correct me).
Her birthday is March 23rd which is Near miss day. While the point of the day is to celebrate the fact that a massive asteroid missed hitting Earth, there is double meaning for Maju since the birthday is a day before Harry Houdini's birthday, thus she missed being born on that day by a single day. Funnily enough, Maju was set to head towards an astronomy career which she didn't truly want, but felt she had no choice but to accept. However, after encountering a street magician and realizing the complexity of the tricks, she decided to pursue a career as a magician and used her scientific know-how to concoct some extraordinary tricks. She had always been fascinated by magic, but never thought to pursue a career in the field until that encounter. She is a bit self-conscious that she's not the greatest, but simply hopes to at least not have the audience guess the secret to her signature tricks.
Her favorite food is soft serve ice cream with sprinkles.
Maju wasn't necessarily based off a specific character, but rather the typical anime female mage archetype. Both her and Onrai were primarily created to serve as performers for the restaurant. Rika originally had the base restaurant built with lots of amenities like the stage in order to have live performances in the future. Since the restaurant's third month anniversary is approaching, Rika decided it was time to start getting live performances in order to greater enhance the Ryokoma experience.
That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.
