This chapter I actually just whipped up on the fly believe it or not. Like... nearly an hour ago. I'll probably refine it more when the story in the remake reaches Matcha's birthday there.

Believe it or not, me deciding that Itsuki's birthday would be pizza day was what spurned me to write all the birthday chapters. Funny how at the time, I didn't know what to write for them, and just wanted to make reference to the character's birthdays in the story.

This is probably one of the darker birthday chapters as it delves into Zuina's past. I wanted to delve into Zuina's past earlier, but the opportunity never presented itself, at least in the original version. In the remake, the birthday chapters will all occur properly and before season 2's big rising action. I know I keep gushing on about the remake, but trust me, everything's paced much better there.

For some reason, Waki's always the one character I always tend to forget about. As for Mocha, I originally planned on killing her off, but went back on that. However, by the time I did, I had already posted the chapters where she got arrested. So instead of editing it out, I just kept her alive in the rewrite and used plot armor to keep her alive in this version of the story. Thank Muramasa Jouzu for all that.

It gets worse when you realize Iori's only rated 500 and Cypress is rated 1939. Yuusuke's also in a similar boat being only 1478 and forced to play against Dr. Zanni who's rated 1913. These two are in some deep trouble, and worst of all it looks like they're on their own.

It's obvious at this point that Ekko did something to get the MC and his sister off the pills. I'm wondering if perhaps the pill's effects are being neutralized, meaning that no matter how many they take, they won't have any effect.

I've updated the Desperado league artwork so feel free to check it out to get a look at the new villains that have been introduced thus far.
Full disclaimer: I used machine translations so I have no idea if the Russian is accurate.
As for the chapter itself, we have now been introduced to one of the higher-ups in the Desperado league, Tsar Grigori. He draws heavy inspiration from Ivan the terrible and even bears the same name as him. His rating is actually a neat reference to the day Ivan died. The day was March 28th 1584, but O.S. (old style) March 18th 1584. And of course, Ivan infamously died during a chess game. Perhaps that might hold clues to Tsar Grigori's fate in the story.

Seems like Ekko did something that's probably going to lead to the MC's pills not working. I'm actually starting to wonder if this story is going to end similarly to Romeo and Juliet. Really enjoying the story so far, though.

As I mentioned in a comment on chapter 1, all the old artwork has been updated and Okisato has been given a redesign. However, I also added some new character profiles for Hagemi and Xiao Lin. A neat little detail about Xiao Lin's character profile is that her bio cards are black instead of turquoise to denote her status as a maestro.
