Author's Commentary #450:

Time to talk about Chapter 450: Secret 6B.
I've been hinting at this a bit, but now it's finally been revealed in the story that the next mini-arc will be a bughouse focused one. I'm sure you can guess why I'd be dreading that.

I don't hate bughouse, in fact, I stated before that I had lots of fun crafting the very first bughouse game back in Season 1. The problem is that it's really hard to write the games due to the lack of a bughouse analysis engine. This means that to get bughouse games, I either need to lookup ones played between high-level players, play the games myself, or do everything from scratch. The last option can be very tiring, and with burnout now being a constant factor, I'm not sure if I'll be able to do 16 full bughouse games like that. Taking the games from games I played is also not as great, but mainly due to the fact that the skill level of play for those games is so low.

That's the other problem I have with doing the games from scratch as since Daria and Mimoko will be on a team, they'll need to play practically perfect chess. It's a difficult undertaking, but that's also why I'm making the games bullet ones as the fast time control can make it easy for me to get away with things.

However, even though the nature of the mini-arc is revealed, it will be a good few chapters before the bughouse tournament actually begins. There's actually a lot of lore beats I'm working to get down for this, as I can't reiterate enough how important this mini-arc will truly be. It might seem trivial now, but by the end of the mini-arc, you'll understand why I said it was so important to the overall story.

Author's Commentary #449:

Time to talk about Chapter 449: Dawn of the second rest day.
With the heavy lore focus early on, you can tell these next few chapters are going to be important. There will be some Kisha chapters like there were on the first rest day, but they won't be as high a quantity of them compared to back then.

When writing this chapter, I briefly considered showcasing the Xiao Lin vs Zsa Zsa game I thought up on the fly, but sadly burnout said otherwise. And on the topic of games, I will confirm that with possibly an exception or two, there won't be any games featured until the plot of this mini-arc takes off. And to be honest, I've been dreading making these games ever since I decided back before the first chapter of Season 7 was even uploaded that this arc would be a thing.

And if you're curious as to what I mean, the good news is that you'll find out in the commentary of the next chapter. I can't emphasize enough that this mini-arc will not only be a very pivotal moment in the season, but also the entire series.

Author's Commentary #448:

Time to talk about Chapter 448: Movie night.
For those that don't know, the "movie" in this chapter is actually one of my other novels known as, A Ghoulish Lovesung. It was originally submitted to the Honeyfeed Halloween writathon contest, which is why it's horror themed. The significance of this though is that it's part of the Jouzu-verse and halfway through, drops some important lore that relates to this very series. To be honest, I actually forgot about it until recently. As such, I feel now s a good time to add it into the story.

A chess game was featured in the novel, which is why the chapter was mainly ported over in the first place. Naturally, since it was a Halloween contest, the Halloween gambit was played.

As for the artifact, I plan to elaborate more on that later. I'm not sure how much later, as the chapter is still being written, but I imagine it will come before the next mini-arc kicks off in the story.
