Author's Commentary #658:

Time to talk about Chapter 658: The limitations of AI.
And here we get a meta chapter offering a behind-the-scenes look at how I first tried to approach the Troitsky problem. I truly thought it would be simple, but the AI's complete disregard for making legal moves, and then still not leaving me with a viable solution, left me frustrated.

That being said, this is not the exact scenario I had with the AI. I didn't save the logs, so I don't remember the exact move, but I think it tried to suggest that black's 23rd move was bishop h3, which made no sense at all. That or it was assuming queen f3 followed bishop h3, check and king g1, which again, doesn't make sense since if the bishop is on h3 now, it needs to move back to d7, but then White must make a move messing up the position. What I can promise is that the ending to this whole saga will surprise you.
