To celebrate the Chess Olympics arc, I've decided to create full artwork of all the major teams that will appear in the story. Each work of art contains not just full art of the team's members, but also their board number and rating along with the team's average rating. Here's links to all the team art currently up for teams that have been revealed thus far. More will be posted as the arc progresses.

The women's side is complete at 56 teams. Even though there are over 100 teams competing, I'm only choosing to spotlight 56 of the women's teams. There will be even less on the men's side, as I'll likely only post art for the teams Japan will face.

Author's Commentary #302:

Time to talk about Chapter 302: King David's Drăculeșting pitfall mate.
That really was an epic game. But before I can talk about it, I need to talk about the new characters, including Kaylee. We'll start of with the Monty Python inspired characters, Mike and Marty.

マイク・オケ (Mike Okeh) is how Mike's name would be spelled in katakana. His name is a reference to both the Lumberjack song from Monty Python and the actor who typically sings it, Michael Palin.

His birthday is November 14th, which was the day the Lumberjack song was first released.

Her favorite piece is the rook.

マーティ・パスカル (Marty Pascal) is how Marty's name would be spelled in katakana.

His birthday is October 3rd, which is the day the Lumberjack song was first recorded.

His favorite piece is the knight.

Both him and Mike are obvious Monty Python references, specifically to the Lumberjack song. Though Mike isn't OK, as illustrated by the parody version of the lumberjack song him and Marty sing. Mike also tends to speak mostly in English while Marty is multilingual.

ケイリー・シャミア (Kaylee Shamir) is how Kaylee's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is March 27th which is also the same as Chaya Shamir's. Perhaps they could be related.

Her favorite piece is the queen.

There will be some mystery surrounding who exactly Kaylee is. It's clear she bears many similarities to Chaya though, in fact her username is even "Tea-bagging Chaya" and in this instance, Chaya is pronounced as Chaya like in ochaya. She also looks identical to Chaya except for the fact that her hair is longer.

Now onto the game, this was amazing. The king checkmate was what easily got this into my good graces as it was a perfect end to the game. Like I said previously, this game is definitely a top 10 favorite games in the series candidate. Though with how many games there now are, I'm probably going to extend the list to a top 20 one.

And with that, Belgium has defeated Romania, but there are still a few games left before the round ends. In fact, two to be specific, and they're both from the same match. I'll explain about why I went with this decision in the commentary for the next chapter.

Author's Commentary #294:

Time to talk about Chapter 294: Doubly whammy vampire schooling.
In case you're curious about the title, it stems from the fact that the Vampire gambit is officially named, the English Opening: King's English, Double Whammy Variation. Many naturally dub it the Vampire gambit due to it resembling vampire fangs, which is why I had Mălina play it.

Though instead of Okisato being the one to play her, I decided to give Mimoko a chance to shine. And that right there is pretty much the reasoning. I felt having Mimoko take the spotlight would also serve as a nice change of pace as now we can see someone else take on the post-round bonus opponent so to say.

Mălina's personality though is all over the place, and that's honestly because I didn't really know what to do with her. But I think it works out in the end as what she has now makes her stand out more. And best of all, everyone gets free dinner on her. Now let's talk briefly about the new character that appeared, Efelreda.

エセルレダ・エルフギフ (Ethelreda Ælfgifu) is how Ethelreda's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is January 26th. I chose this date at random, so there's no greater significance behind why this date is her birthday.

Her favorite piece is the queen.

To give some more context on the state of New Zealand in this world, it's essentially gone full Tolkien. Not everyone is an elf, but elves now make up a majority of the nation's population.

She nor any of the other New Zealand players will be appearing for a while though, but if I end up deciding to have the New Zealand men's team appear on screen, expect to see some parodies of popular Tolkien characters.

Author's Commentary #301:

Time to talk about Chapter 301: Four for four.
I just couldn't resist that pun name. Jokes aside, Japan has continued their perfect victory streak and taken down India 4-0. This just goes to show how strong Japan's women's team is as India was one of the favorites to win.

In real-life, India's women's team did win gold at the Chess Olympics, even after suffering a loss. However, I don't think that will be the case in this story as our protagonists are just too powerful. The Indian men's team though have a good chance though of mirroring their real-world equivalent that won gold at the 45th Chess Olympiad.

As for the game itself, Mimoko goes with a Hungarian opening, fitting since she's currently in Hungary. This is quickly becoming a valuable opening for her as with her skill-set, she can easily turn it into an opening on par with 1. e4, 1. d4, or 1. Nf3. The Hungarian opening is pretty solid as well so it makes sense why Mimoko would learn it and add it to her repertoire.

And with that, both Japan vs India matches are now complete. However, the round still isn't over. There's still a few teams I want to showcase first, but I promise the games will be exciting. Speaking of which, this next game is so hype, it's a top 10 favorite games in the series contender. I hope you're looking forward to it.
