I agree with Mr. Losonso, this is a very nice chapter.
I'll have to take away one point for a Roman Feast without mentioning any Garum, though.
Just kidding...
The "carrot on a stick" plan with the Blemmyae was also a nice idea, and I'm curious how their plans will unfold. :)

Ah, there it is, the revised prologue chapter!
First of all, I think it reads incredibly well! I loved the detailed descriptions of the underworld and the cool, almost analytical behavior of Plinius and Pompanius. <3

In my personal opinion, this chapter might have worked better as the second one (right after the prologue), but that’s just a matter of taste.

I can totally understand wanting to introduce the fantasy world aspect early on, though... we already talked about that. :3

Hmmm... I don’t know “Yumi and the Nightmare Painter”, but what you're saying sounds pretty convincing..

Maybe I’ll give the contest a try after all, actually have a few ideas already (something like a cat kingdom or so xD).

Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed this one, the little “academy arc” was a lot of fun to write!

Honestly, I kind of wish I could’ve expanded it more, but at the time I had to keep an eye on the word count so the rest of the story wouldn’t get rushed.

Maybe after the contest I’ll revisit it, there are still so many little things I’d love to refine or add.

I’m especially happy you liked Glizzy, she’s just too adorable, isn’t she? xD

Honestly, I actually thought this was one of the weaker chapters and even deleted it for a while because I wasn’t sure the fight worked that well 😅

I still feel like I’ve got a lot to learn when it comes to writing fights, especially from you (the fights at the badania house still amaze me)

I actually wrote those food descriptions while being pretty hungry myself, so maybe that influenced things a bit xD

(Might be a good idea to write a story revolving around cooking lol.)

Seriously, thank you for your feedback! I’m glad you liked that I brought back Melissa’s playful side, despite the overall menacing atmosphere.

I think it’s not easy to balance those elements, so it means a lot that you think I got it right.

It’s something you handle really well yourself in your own work, by the way :)

Very cool how you brought the revelations from the archives full circle back to Chapter 0!
I recall that line “Only three were remembered… The fourth was forgotten…” ...and now it’s taken up again in the Red Tower. So satisfying!

Also, I just have to say... I love Velis. Even if he’s not exactly a main character, he totally steals every scene he’s in.

At first, he seemed like this cold and calculating Inquisitor, but when you eventually introduced his father Yuris, it became clear he’s actually such a kind soul with a heartbreaking backstory involving his sister and everything... it really hit me.

When he said “I wanted to find a way to break a binding oath,” I immediately knew it had to be about Sabel, that moment gave me literal chills!

I think that’s what I like most about your story: even the side characters feel so real and human, and everyone somehow has an important part to play in your world. It makes everything feel alive. Awesome work❤️

I like how this "Roman field report" is filled with equal parts anthropology and ego.

It really nailed the tone of a Roman scholar who’s absolutely certain the universe exists just to be catalogued.

I have to admit the comparison to Dr. Stone kept popping into my head 🤔

...the same obsession with rebuilding knowledge, just filtered through imperial pride instead of post-apocalyptic hope.
