I did enjoy Spice and Wolf quite a lot, especially when I first picked up anime; I especially enjoyed the manga. I'm quite humbled. I've written in last years and published a few months back. I'll be working on another novel after the contest too.
When it comes to all the descriptiveness, I try never to get it too muddled, for better or worse. I try to build an atmosphere instead, a focal point from last year's story. That and dialogue, the nuances of body language speaks a bit more than explaining something. Less is more, so they say.
The tarot scene was a personal touch. I thought it would play a bit of foreshadowing. I had to double check the cards and position. The train is the real catalyst that winds things together. However, I definitely see the impact. The original prologue's draft actually began with the train scene, so I'll definitely switch that over once I clear my remaining batch of edits.
I had to skip a lot when defining Enne and Allie's relationship, between the first novel and this story, a lot has happened. So piecing that together was important ro me. As for Allie's arc, there's a lot that comes out along with Enne's. Allie is an affectionate name Enne calls him by, so I knew that woukd be a tad bit confusing as well. xD
Regarding Elf and Elph... They are very intentional as we find out more in the next few chapters. (I think I have a definition on one od my IG posts a few months ago. I've had my mind on this setting for a while. This story fits a narrative akin to the aforementioned series you mentioned. This isnthe biggest piece of our heroes' puzzle.
