Amazing way to end this arc. My heart ached through their goodbye, the jade pendant, the red ribbon, the "when I return" that hangs over everything. I could feel the weight of the war and their separate worlds pulling them apart, but also the sheer strength of their promise.

And the present-day scene with Mei-Ling’s return was wonderfully layered. Yi-yun’s protest about not wanting to leave now shows how deeply she’s connected to this place and its stories. The little tea ritual becoming a point of gentle generational teasing felt so warm.
Absolutely loved it.

I used to be obsessed with romance... most of my cringy preteen stories were romance 😅 Then I got into fantasy and found a new love, and that’s kind of where I am now. I still enjoy romance when it’s mixed with something else though.

I feel like rushing through Hide Me took a lot of my energy, and I don’t really want to plan character relationships again right now. I’m more in a fantasy mood. If I can twist my fantasy idea into horror, I might join, though it probably won’t be full-on horror.

And I agree, contests are such a motivation boost! I also love seeing how everyone interprets the same prompt differently.

Ooh, I’ll check it out! I do get a bit lost on Discord since I’m not very familiar with it 😭

It would have fit the prompt, you’re right. But I’m not really a romance writer, so I don’t enjoy it as a genre on its own, and I don’t feel like writing another romance after Hide Me. That’s also why I haven’t updated That Time I Kidnapped a Mafia Boss.

At the same time, I don’t even consume horror, let alone write it. I do have an idea with some fantastical elements where I could focus more on psychology, maybe, but I think I may set this one out.

Will you participate? I can’t wait to see what you’d do. You’d absolutely nail psychological horror, Four Shots Left comes to mind. Or would you go for a rom-com instead?

I love how grounded this chapter feels despite all the magic. Noa doing literal manual labor with spells instead of big flashy stuff makes the world feel lived-in, and Yuko is such a great presence, she is warm and a little intimidating. The levitation scene had me stressed, and the throwaway line about his mother not approving says so much about him. Also the magic infrastructure talk?? Fascinating. This chapter really sold the sense that Noa’s quietly finding a place here, even if he won’t admit it yet.

I really like the quiet tension in this chapter. Noa constantly measuring his steps, what to say, what not to say, how much space he’s allowed to take… poor guy, especially contrasted with how casually kind Ogimura and her family are being. The uniform detail and him tugging the hood up, small details that hit hard, and that ending thought about generosity having limits? Oof. This feels like the calm before something complicated, and I’m very invested.

The isolation at the plantation was painful, and then having hope rise only to be crushed by Asano… that was brutal. But the rain scene… oh. The restraint, the fear, the choice laid bare between them, and that line about only losing what truly matters? That hit straight in the chest. Calling him Shuichi at the end felt intimate, like the world finally narrowed to just the two of them. This chapter was tender and incredibly satisfying.

Oh, this chapter hurt. The shift in Shu-fen’s storytelling voice was subtle but I could feel her protecting both Yi-yun and herself. And then the prohibition itself… her father’s words, the rumors, that awful title clinging to him, it all presses in from every side. I really loved how grounded Shu-fen stays, even when everything around her is trying to define what she’s allowed to feel. She realises she has to see him again despite everything, that is very brave. This tension is so good it almost aches.

I really loved the way the practical problem with the warehouse slowly melts into emotional stakes. It was so well done, especially that “stay together” slip. And that last hand-hold?? The restraint there hurts. This chapter felt soft, I enjoyed!
