You have this habit of beating around the bush before hitting the nail on the head, to the point where whatever impact the reveal or the line had is long dead and buried. In this case, Victor telegraphed his hatred for Alice in such an elaborate manner that there was really no punch to his 'I wish Alice Truman was never born' spiel. It kind of existed, then moved on.
Another thing is that it often feels like your characters never really *talk*. Don't get it twisted, they do speak to one another, but they never seem to talk about anything other than some philosophical point or something pertaining to the plot. They always say lines that advance the story and that makes them feel like characters more so than humans; it makes them feel visible in a way that reveals their artificiality.
