Hello, I'm Joe Gold. I'm a writer of web novels and short stories, all set in my own original multiverse.
I'm a lifelong anime, comic book, and video game fan, and my fiction is often reminiscent of the series I grew up with.

Aw geez! I didn't think you guys would actually like the crappy open ending! I wrote it at 4am while sleep deprived from two days without sleep finishing up the novel while the clock to the competition ending was counting down. Had I been in a better state of mind, I probably would have just had Jack kill Marilyn by accident. I can't change it now, because the competiton is over, and I don't want to get disqualified by the omniscient Honeyfeed moderators, so I'm sort of stuck with it. 😭
Anyway, thanks for your continued readership, Verson. I'm glad you liked the story, and I'll keep in mind that you want to see more of my work. 👍

I suppose it does leave room for a sequel at least.... Well, I'll see what happens. I asked around about changing things after the competition, and the general impression I got was that people were scared to since none of us know how Honeyfeed records that stuff. If I don't win the competition, I'll just change like one line in the ending so Jack kills Marilyn. If I do win the competition, I'll just say to the Japanese publishers, 'Hey, listen, we should change the ending so we don't end up upsetting everyone like the final season of Game of Thrones.'
Neither did I. 😑 I stayed up for two days straight trying to finish everything, and I wrote this ending while I was sleep deprived and the time for entering the competition was running out. Now that I look at it. It isn't sooo bad. Jack chasing Marilyn into the Dungeon Universe is an open ending of sorts, which is what the competition wants, but I can't help that feel that things would have been more complete if Jack had accidentally killed Marilyn with the Dagger of Life and Death. I'll ask around and see if I can change that tiiiny little detail now that the competiton is over.
Thanks for your continued readership anyway, Shingaka. You've been a great fan! 👍
Yep! Sorry, Shingaka! I'm not one of those writers that gives their characters full plot armour. I'm not one of those writers that kills all of their characters like George R. R. Martin either, but I don't think characters should be totally safe throughout a violent adventure.
I like giving even the minor characters a little time to shine.
Neither did I! I based all of the characters off Chainsaw Man characters, so Marilyn in her devil-esque form is Power in her Blood Devil form, and I sort of ripped off John Carter of Mars to explain why that is. 😅
Take your time, my dear man. I've been reading one chapter a day of Midnight King for God knows how long now.

Will do on Monday, Skorge! Like your name by the way. Big Gears fan, me.

Thanks so much, takaishi. Rewriting is the key to making even super complex storylines and characters coherent. I'll keep in mind that you want to see more from me after the competition. 👍
Thanks! I will deliver!

That's not the ending lol.

Your cover with the cage is so cool! I've got to find a way to rip off your changing cover idea. Every time I see it, I think of manga where each volume has a new character on the cover. Maybe hire an illustrator to draw a character and title but leave the background blank so stuff can be put there? Working it out.

Thank you, Keys! You're the second guy to tell me he liked the IRS joke. 😆😆😆
Thanks! I was hoping this one would impress the fans. This Sunday is the final upload of all remaining chapters!
