First time I had commented in months~
The "[ ]" is used to substitute open and close inverted commas that are commonly used to initiate and end dialogues. This is done 'cause my eyes tend to play tricks on me while reading and skips over them like they are not even there...
Makes reading Light Novels that much harder when I had to reread again to see whether it was a dialogue or inner voice...
I agree that Caps Lock shld be used sparingly, don't want characters shouting all the time~
That said, I think this time it is justified since in that scenario, Yang would be rather desperate and confuse
