Yesss I wanted to spin the rumors and all the little details, so the proposal would look like "an elf just wanted to buy the land because it has rare elven crops" on it. And now they can sell the land for a lot 🤭 (let's just hope no real elves show up and start wondering about this bamboo thing ahaha 🤣)
If this were a longer book, I would have loved to make the Duke a bigger character! I'd like to show some of the power struggles and political structures of their world. But, I will admit, most of those ideas are getting cut for time 😢 one day though!! One day I'll put all these extra ideas into a longer novel 🤣

I wanted to give Mia a stand out chapter, so she could stand on her own as a character and be the awesome person I wanted her to be 😤 (since I realized a lot of her characterization got cut for plot reasons, whoops 🥲 and she hadn't really had her time to shine!)

We have two really cute potential couples here 😉 hopefully if I pull this off, we can get an awesome ending for all of them!!

First villain!! And since you've read ahead, you know how this goes 🤣 Duke Elvett was so fun to write. Evil characters are some of my favorites for writing dialogue! But I knew I wanted this story to be more of a "journey of self" where the conflict would be around one's own emotions rather than a person 🤣 so alas, I shall have to save my villainous dialogue for another story!!

I was hoping for "Understandable, but still not really morally right, nor a good long term answer" kind of feeling, and it looks like I got that across!!

I didn't want the dad to be totally awful 😞 because it would be hard to narratively recover from that. I'd have to spend a lot more writing time either redeeming the dad's character, or helping Mia overcome trauma, neither of which are the intended story direction 🤣 so I knew I needed to keep it lighter-hearted!

I have lots of respect for Pearl's story though!! The evil gramps is amazingly well done and introduced as a realistic moral gray zone (he steals ideas from young talent...but he's the grandpa of Emma 😭) So I think that's a really cool idea!! If I was writing a more drama-focused story, I might have considered taking a darker junction here!

I wanted Mia and Jun to definitely seem like friends, and maybe even that they could date each other nicely, but just that the spark isn't really...there. So, maybe our local cat boy isn't too far away from making this a double-date scenario after all? 😏 (Toren chasing bubbles will be eternally adorable 🫧 and if nothing else I am happy for getting this far in my writing just to have that moment.)

I'm literally eating dinner at my computer right now, and hearing the Jotaro "YES YES YES YES" sound effect in my mind actually made me spit out my drink 🤣🤣🤣 omg. thank you. That was perfect and I don't think I've laughed that hard in DAYS. it's been so long since I thought about that sound clip.

okay but actual real reply here: yesss the nobles are missing out for SURE! (But honestly, Duke Elvett didn't deserve this cool campfire dance event. Also, I didn't think I could have a chill dance scene if like...all the nobles were watching and silently judging everyone 👀)
