    Author's Commentary #325:

Time to talk about Chapter 325: Sugar vs broccoli.
If you ever wanted to see Robbie Rotten vs Jabroni Mike in a chess match, this is pretty much the closest thing to that. This was the last of the recent batch of chapters I wrote, and it kind of shows with how it just inserts itself before Xiu's match. Now let's discuss all the new characters introduced.

ヴィンチェンツォ・ディルイージ (Vincenzo DiLuigi) is how Vincenzo's name would be spelled in katakana.

His birthday is September 4th, which is the day the first episode of the Super Mario bros Super show aired.

His favorite piece is the bishop because he likes attacking at long range.

Vincenzo originally hails from Escape Witch and Spice of Life and is Jester's younger brother from another mother. He also says all his lines in English and sounds exactly like Vinny Vinesauce when he does his Luigi voice. Funnily enough, Vinny's Luigi voice was the primary inspiration for Vincenzo.

ドージェ・メディチ (Doge Medici) is how Doge's name would be spelled in katakana.

His birthday is October 20th, which he shares with Italian professional football manager, Claudio Ranieri.

His favorite piece is the pawn, mainly because he views moving them like kicking soccer balls.

Initially, Doge had a very generic design, and personality to boot, but then I decided to base him off of Claudio Ranieri, and dilly ding, dilly dong, we got fun and memorable character. He even says Caludio's trademark, "Dilly ding, Dilly dong" catchphrase as a homage.

マルコ・マルヴォーリオ (Marco Malvolio) is how Marco's name would be spelled in katakana.
ジャブロノ・マルコ (Jabrono Marco) is how his streamer name would be spelled in katakana.

His birthday is December 23rd, which he shares with streamer and content creator, Jabroni Mike, who Marco is heavily based off of.

His favorite piece is the bishop because they're the lewdest piece according to him.

Marco is actually a streamer and a lewd one at that. His character is a homage to and parody of Jabroni Mike. As for his hair, it's a reference to when Jabroni Mike infamously gave himself a broccoli haircut.

ピスタチオ・ラグー (Pistachio Ragu) is how Pistachio's name would be spelled in katakana.

His birthday is January 26th, which is the day Pizza Tower was released.

His favorite piece is the king because it has the simplest and least confusing moves according to him.

Pistachio is a parody character of Pizza Tower's Peppino Spaghetti. He was actually mentioned in some of my aforementioned works, but never appeared until now.

And with that, all the members of the Italian team have been given their bios. As for the game, it was a last minute one I did because I felt we needed to see some more Ragnar action. I decided to have him play the Icelandic-Palme gambit as the game I got when I played it against the Chess.com bots, with assisted mode on, was amazing.

But now the next chapter will definitely feature Xiu's game, and then round 5 will officially be over. Though I will confirm at least one game will occur before round 6's start. As for who it could be between, the clue is that it will feature someone who was introduced in round 5. See if you can guess who it is before it's revealed in the story.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #444:

Time to talk about Chapter 444: Iori and Lulu's exhibition collab.
Full disclaimer, this chapter was completely unplanned and written last minute. As for why that is, just look at what chapter this is. Since it's the 444th chapter, I felt I had to make it an Iori-centric chapter. And what better way to highlight Iori than have her encounter a fan and shave her bald after beating her in a chess game. Speaking of which, let's talk about Lulu now.

ルル・ドス (Lulu Dos) is how her name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is February 1st, which is the first day of the second month of the year.

Her favorite piece is the pawn.

Prior to writing this chapter, I had no idea what to do with Lulu's character. All I had was that she was a streamer and a beginner at chess, the latter of which proving key to why I chose to have her play Iori.

The game was played against Chess.com's level 1 250-rated engine bot, which is why mistakes were so plentiful. I was originally going to try for a regular Creepy Crawly Variation, but when the bot played the Bongcloud, I knew I had to continue with this one. And with it's short length, it became the game featured in the chapter. As for the Creepy Crawly Variation, it will make a proper appearance soon.

Now it's back to our regularly scheduled matches between the other teams. I'm not sure how many more of these there will be for this round, but I will concretely say that it will be fall between a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3, so needless to say, Round 8 will be rapping up very soon in the story.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Chapter:444

    Author's Commentary #443:

Time to talk about Chapter 443: Hundred-year hitchhiker.
This time the spotlight is on Vonnie, who shows just how effective the Mexican Defense can be. The chapter also introduces the rest of the Chilean women's team, so let's do their bios.

イクラ・ロンコン (Iqra Loncón) is how Iqra's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is October 3rd. I chose this date at random, so there's no greater significance behind why this date is her birthday.

Her favorite piece is the knight.

イフィゲニア・ブリセーニョ (Iphigenia Briceño) is how Iphigenia's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is August 7th, which she shares with Chilean grandmaster, Cristobal Henriquez Villagra.

Her favorite piece is the queen.

ウラカ・ブフォン (Urraca Bufón) is how Urraca's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is March 15th, which is both the Ides of March, and the day after the other Urraca's birthday.

Her favorite piece is the king, since all Jester cultists are required to worship Jester as king.

While Urraca was always meant to be a Jester cultist, her having a miserable office lady personality was a last-minute thing. I feel it works well for her and provides many new avenues for writing her character. As for her name, I normally don't like giving characters the same name, but I felt it could work here. That being said, I doubt the two Urracas will have much screentime together in the series going forward.

ユクス・ガホナ (Uxue Gahona) is how Uxue's name would be written in katakana.

Her birthday is July 17th, which is National Tattoo Day.

Her favorite piece is the queen.

Uxue is a tattoo artist, and one of the main reasons Onera is studying abroad. She's dedicated to her craft and even shaved her own hair and eyebrows off for the sake of inking over the skin where it had been.

And with that, Babylonian is the only full women's team left to get their bios and be introduced. A big reason for this is the various revisions I've done on that team as they're now far different from the original vision I had for them.

Getting back to the chapter at hand, the main focus was showcasing Vonnie and the Mexican Defense proper. I did feel a little burnout when writing this, but not enough to make me feel miserable.

And best of all, I'll be getting a break from game writing in just a few short chapters as a second rest day means Kisha's interviews will be back. That being said, this second rest day will be much different than the first one as it will feature a very important event for not just the arc, but the overall series.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Chapter:443

    May 17, 2025

That's it? Welp, review time I guess. One thing this reminds me of is RuriDragon, though instead of a dragon girl, we get catgirl and romance. Two very good things. But before we go any further with the positives, we need to address a huge negative I had with this entire story; I hated that it was mostly written in third person present tense. I said it before, but I'm not the biggest fan of present tense. First person present tense I can handle, but third person present tense... Sorry. Too many times I got so disoriented by the third person present tense to the point where it lessened my enjoyment of reading. Though this is more of a personal thing as it appears present tense is more popular with others. Now with that out of the way, back to the positives.

I was able to catch some of your earlier draft chapters, and I'm really glad you revised the hell out of them because things were looking so bad that it coupled with me not enjoying the present tense format likely would have made me drop the series or give it a 1/5 if I stuck with it, especially after the drugging chapter, so pat yourself on the back for revising things so well. As others have said, the dialogue is one of the story's strong suits, but I also enjoyed the first person present tense chapters. To be honest, I feel those chapters were the ones I was most engaged with as I'm really not exaggerating when I say the third person present tense didn't mesh well with me. This is why I must sadly knock a star from the review. While the story at it's core is a solid romance, the third person present tense broke my immersion far too many times to say I truly enjoyed every bit of this and that it's worthy of a 5/5. I realize this probably is more of a personal thing, but I feel for the sake of the review it would be disingenuous to all if I negated talking about an aspect that hindered my enjoyment of the novel.

That all being said, I have no other issues. It's sad I couldn't enjoy this as much as I could have due to the format, but sometimes that's just how things go. At least the others didn't seem to have the same issue I had with the third person present tense. Congratulations on finishing, and good luck with the contest.

    Cat Got My Tongue
    Chapter:29

    May 17, 2025

    To:lolitroy

Thanks for binge reading this. To be honest, while this started off as just a fun little slice of life story with no rhyme or reason, I did start to feel burnout for it after reaching the one-year point in the story, which was also the real-life one-year anniversary of the series. With no contest in sight yet at the time, I was mainly focused on EPGM and Streamer Royale, but then came the Halloween writathon and the contest and tsundere and even Streamer Royale were put on the back burner. What was once a fun way to write holiday chapters quickly became more of a chore, and after Boxing Day, I decided that this was it. Nina and Johan's tale isn't done yet though. They do appear in Streamer Royale and cameo in EPGM, with the chess chapters here being presented there as a television show. Their world is now merged with my main Jouzu-verse meaning they'll now exist in the main world of most of my other works. And while I have ended this series, there is a good chance I might come back to it, as due to it's nature, I could write a new chapter whenever. Once again, thanks for reading this series all the way through. It helped make Nina just a little bit realer, and made me happy to see all those notifications. In fact, it inspired me to write a new chapter for this, so you aren't quite done reading just yet. But still, thanks for reading this. Reading your comments really made me happy and inspired me to breath some new life into this series.
