I'm glad you think so. That's honestly the vibe I wanted to nail when it came to Kuon. She's fickle, chaotic, and quite vain. She's also got an interesting story behind her development. She originally was planned to be a major antagonist, and a dark one at that, but what happened was I ended up creating more villains, who I liked far more than her. I also just couldn't think of a good plot-line for her. The other deciding factor was that if I made Kuon a dark villain, I had to make Nyoan's backstory dark, which I didn't want as I wanted her to be the designated comic relief character. To give an idea of the vision I had in mind, Nyoan and Nyogaku were originally meant to be honors students who Kuon harbored jealousy towards due to their intellects. Thus, she not only beat them in DESPER matches and turned them into catgirls, but also altered their personalities to make them dumber. Since I already had a better villain in the works to handle the jealousy idea, I felt it would be a bit redundant for Kuon to have that as her main selling point.

But while I didn't know what to do with her early on, which leads to her being relegated to the background most often, I finally figured out what to do with her, meaning she'll become a major antagonist after all, and what she'll do will be quite dark, and very vain. It won't be for a while though, in fact I haven't actually written it yet, but the build-up to it is sprinkled throughout the already uploaded story. The big reveal of her scheme and the main cast's confrontation with her has also been outlined, and will take place when the current season, season 7, reaches it's climax. That is a ways off, but if you like Kuon's character, I hope that info gets you excited for what's to come for her character.

    Author's Commentary #319:

Time to talk about Chapter 319: Zsa Zsa Zsa.
With the matches for both Japanese teams concluded, things are briefly shifting over to the French women's team, who are down Collette against a strong Hungarian team. And since this is the debut for the Hungarian women's team, that means it's time to do all their bios.

ローザ・ゴログ (Rózsa Görög) is how Rózsa's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is November 2nd, which she shares with Hungarian-Israeli international master and sister of Judit Polgár, Sofia Polgar.

Her favorite piece is the knight.

Originally, Rózsa was nothing more than a background character, but now that I've decided to make her a DSPCM, that's no longer the case. On the topic of that, Hungary actually has 6 DSPCMs including Rózsa and Randy, who are based in Debrecen and Budapest, respectively.

ピロスカ・ハジュナル (Piroska Hajnal) is how Piroska's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is August 3rd, which she shares with Hungarian women's international master, Mária Grosch.

Her favorite piece is the queen.

Of all the members of the Hungarian women's team, Piroska is easily the one with the least development and future plans. But that is subject to change, so it's possible there's more in store for her in the future.

ジョラン・ジグモンディ (Jolán Zsigmondy) is how Jolán's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is April 19th, which she shares with Hungarian-American grandmaster and sister of Judit Polgár, Susan Polgar.

Her favorite piece is the pawn, mainly since she views them as children to watch over.

Jolán is actually the strongest player on the team. She was also the only member other than Zsa Zsa I had plans for. She is 25 years old, and recently became a mother a month ago. She is also a DSPCM, representing Győr.

トゥンデ・ヤヴォル (Tünde Jávor) is how Tunde's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is April 25th, which she share with Vietnamese-born Hungarian grandmaster, Hoàng Thanh Trang.

Her favorite piece is the queen.

Tünde's another character I had little plans for up until now. She's also a DSPCM, representing Szolnok.

ザ・ザ・ガル (Zsa Zsa Gál) is how Zsa Zsa's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is February 6th, which she shares with Hungarian-American socialite and actress, Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Her favorite piece is the queen.

As the main subject of the chapter, Zsa Zsa naturally gets a lot of screentime to showcase her fickle ego. To elaborate more on her fascination with Collette, in her eyes there are only two good chess players and models, her and Collette. Sometimes if she feels like showcasing that, she'll play, but if not, she'll sit out. And if forced to play when she doesn't feel like it, she'll resign on the spot, or deliberately throw the game. As for her age, she's only 28, though many call her a hag out of spite, not due to jealousy, but rather her ego.

As for the game, burnout actually played a bog factor in why it was so short. Originally, Zsa Zsa was going to abandon the match leaving Fifi to play someone else. But I'm actually glad things went the way they did as not only did it make more sense narratively, but it sets up something I can do with Zsa Zsa once the round is officially over.

Speaking of round 5, it's going to go on a little longer than planned, but that's because I really want to highlight some of the other teams, notably teams that just might end up being future opponents for the Japanese teams. I promise this extension will be worth it as some of the games played will be amazing. Plus, you'll get to see some familiar faces show their skill as well. I hope you're looking forward to it.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.
