This chapter was great. It really takes the confusion of the previous chapters and puts a lot of information into perspective. We get to see where Echoes comes from, which is fantastic! And the heart wrenching statement that Xia is not real. That is truly heartbreaking since that is what she wants to be more than anything.

There is also a great moment of real world fears and concerns put in there with the watches. How much of our information is monitored by the tech we wear today. How much of our heart rates and routines are tracked by the terms and conditions we unwittingly sign? Great psychological aspect added there!

And then to have them say they will rebuild Farah to be more loving. Like she’s a doll that can be broken and repaired. Like a dog that is nothing more than a good girl. Fantastic moment in this chapter!

What a panicky chapter. That rush to escape, trying to remain calm and act normal when everything is wrong. Great job!

No matter how many times she says “it’s okay” it’s obviously not okay! And they almost made it out before it became not okay. Though I couldn’t help but wonder if this is all according to plan. They were brought together to bind their souls, could this escape attempt be a part of it? Are they just playing with them to strengthen the soul connection for Alpha??? I’m going to have to wait to find out!

Hmmm, okay, a dog you say? It makes me wonder if that’s where the focus on the eyes comes from. The yellow in them, maybe amber like that of a dog. It could also explain her protectiveness, like that whole man’s best friend thing. Very curious.

And the focus on needing to die for it to work. In a way the twists of this story remind me of that brief series ‘The OA’. I’ve felt it for a while and just recently it really settled in.

I’ve also now been wondering about the showers and the way it makes Yun feel. Could it be from the clone vats? A product of everything happening? But what about the scents? Could that have to do with the dog? Hyper sensitivity to scent? So many questions!!!

Oh damn! What a fantastic twist. I wasn’t expecting this, but it makes perfect sense when thinking back to previous chapters. You’ve had some decent foreshadowing to lead up to this but there are still questions to be answered. Great job!

The soul transfer is interesting, I love the idea and think it really adds that level of psychological horror to the story. I wonder how they’ll alter reality with it or if it’s mainly to do what was mentioned, like immortality and elevating the human condition. Can’t wait to dive into the concluding chapters.

Okay! Very interesting. We’ve moved away from paranormal into science. I love it! I wasn’t expecting this. But now I’m not a 100% sure about Frankenstein. The similarity between passions of Yuna and her aunt are too much. It makes me wonder, a younger clone of her? And she’s mentioned feeing a sort of kinship with Xia. Could they both be versions of aunty? Orrr, could it be a clone thing? Like how twins get a strong feeling when something is wrong with their other half. Could they be experiencing the same? And what’s up with Farah? And the eyes? Is this another genetic experiment?

The aunt never left! The aunt never leeeffftttt!

Geeze this gives me a bad feeling. Creepy slab of metal, in a creepy location, revealing a dark hole and creepy ladder. No answers just a “follow me, I want to show you something cool”. Nuh-uh! No thanks! Absolutely not. That sounds like murder story 101!

Plenty of building anxiety here! Fantasy work!

Hmmm, the plot thickens. I am now wanting to focus on the scientist aspect. He aunt works with genetics. She wants bioeningeering. Xia is also looking into the same. It’s very curious and makes me have ‘frankensteins’ monster vibes. Would that make Xia/naomi Jekyll and Hyde? And what about Farah. It’s always with the eyes. There’s a lot of focus with the yellow eyes and how, this time with the stars. She wasn’t afraid.

I’ve also become very curious about the scents. That has to be the most detailed part of the story and I wonder about their significance. Not just with the roses that come up a lot but now the pine…hmmm.

I love the usage of dreams in this story. They’re so cryptic and confusing that it really pulls me in. It’s hard to tell what is dream and reality which I think really lends well to the psychological aspect of the story as a whole. And then the way Xia was there, confirming she was real—that just sent a shiver down my spine.

I’m enjoying the way youre writing this story, it’s really hitting the horror aspect of not knowing what is going to happen next. And everything feels so grim and gloomy in the space, giving me this strange haunted Victorian era feel. Even the brushing of the hair felt, off and like a strange bargain with a demon.

It’s really good so far! I wonder where it’s going from here!

I find that Yuna is exceptionally anxious and I have to wonder exactly why. It seems that everything terrifies her, makes her uncomfortable, embarrasses her beyond her comfort. It feels as though at any moment she could die of embarrassment and it makes me feel for her. I want her to not be as worried but I wonder what it has to do with her life and trauma.

Farahs obsession with the jacket is also interesting. It’s like a prized possession or a cursed object. It seems like she wants it but regularly forgets it as she flees. And the fact that it’s in Yunas room really draws attention to it.

And don’t get me started on those forbidden buildings! What’s in there!!! Something that’ll solve this puzzle I’d bet.

I find the shower or water scenes very interesting. Every time it comes up I feel as though something is going to burst out, whether it be a memory, trauma or other person. It’s such a peaceful intimate place but the details that are put into it give me the feeling of more building.

It was interesting seeing the hit about Xian’s past. About her losing her parents. There are similarities between them. And both seem to have a level of favouritism with the Madame. I can’t help but think again about the title. And how that may place into these similarities.

Hmm, I can’t help but begin to wonder about the story title in this chapter. Echoes. And the ways that the characters speak. The repeating of ‘reality’, ‘being real’, ‘be alive’, the mention in the previous chapter of the mist/fog and the trees and the mentioning of mist in the poem. Are these characters echoes of a life lost?

And then there’s the Madame. She seems to be kind, supportive but also distant. I can’t help but wonder her place in all of this!

You’re doing a great job of building suspense here. I really have no idea where this could be going but youve got me on the hook. I must know more!

This conflict between Farah and Xia is interesting. I mean, not conflict but both seem to be possessive over Yuna, which really adds that stressful feeling of the main character being ripped from side to side.

Then there’s that line Xia keeps repeating. To be alive. Be alive. And how the phrase affects Yuna and causes her to blur her eyes and lose touch with reality. I find that very telling. I can’t help but wonder if Yuna is dead. Or something of the sort. A spirit trapped between. And then there are the eyes. The yellow. Creepy!

And then there is the fact that this place is different. Not what it seems. Is this literal or figurative? What is it? I’m liking me theory of an asylum. We shall see!

What a crazy deep sequence! That was wild and definitely has me focusing on my previous statement of this girl sees things. Or at least knows something whether she wants to accept it or not.

Xi? Naomi? Which is it? This is a very creepy moment! I think you’re doing great with this story so far Mara, it’s definitely giving me some chills. I can’t help but wonder what is going on and every chapter just adds more questions and more discomfort! (In a good way)

Hmmm, this chapter makes me wonder if Yuna has something going on with her. Some sort of ability or curse or just a strangeness that makes her susceptible to things. Her focus on the eyes, the fear of being alone, jumping as at shadows. The way she brings up her mind, mentioning cars again…

Could it be a result of her tragic upbringing? Could it be more? This is giving me some crazy theories (like I see dead people theories) and I’m here for it. Curious to see what happens next.

Ooh, very creepy. I definitely find myself wondering what is going on in this school. Is there some dispute between Farah and Xiaolian? What’s going on with the scars? Who is good who is bad or which is worse!

There so much intrigue and tension and it’s hard to know who to trust. I have seen a theme of water being a safe space. A place for Yuna to wash away her anxieties and I can’t help put wonder if this will come into play later as a scary or tense moment. And then there is the smell. So much focus, makes me really curious!
