Author's Commentary #391:
Time to talk about Chapter 391: Iori and Mimoko.
Originally, this chapter was not even on the radar, ore even planned, but since I wanted to feature a chapter focusing on Okisato and Iori during the rest day, I ended up coming up with this, and I'm very glad I did.
I'm sure many are curious as to how Iori got into chess, and now the answer is known. Not to mention, her friendship with Mimoko as well. For the game, I wanted it to be short, but also symbolic, which is why I ended up going for a king mate. Not only does Iori consider the king "lame", but Mimoko considers it the core of the game, making things all the more symbolic. Had Iori not been mated in such dramatic fashion, she probably wouldn't have taken much interest in chess, but thanks to that flashy mate, she was inspired, and is now an international master, knocking on the door of becoming a grandmaster.
To be honest, this game is one of the most important in the series despite it's debut in the 391st chapter. Both Iori and Mimoko's friendship and Iori's first exposure to chess are topics I've felt the need to touch on for a while, so I'm glad that after so long, this chapter has done just that. And the crazy thing is I literally thought this all up and wrote it less than a week before it was uploaded.
As for the story, things will now shift over to Daria and Mimoko, who will be getting a nice heart-to-heart moment themselves along with some more character development. After that, just one chapter remains before round 7 will finally begin. I hope you're looking forward to it.
That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.
