And this is honestly Okisato playing at his weakest, solely so that I could make the en passant checkmate flex. As the series goes on, you'll see just how badass and skilled this guy truly is. He isn't one of my favorite characters in the series for nothing. As for Mimoko, a big part of this volume will focus on her getting her rating, so we'll know how skilled she truly is by the end of it.

Author's Commentary #781:

Time to talk about Chapter 781: Bad dudes.
This might seem like the premise for another dumb filler arc, but in actuality, at least one of the bad dudes, the one with the mustache to be specific, is a character I've had thought up for well over a year now. I can't go in details just yet, but I will say that he'll be appearing again in the story.

I actually meant for this chapter to be the previous chapter, but since I got the game finished, I decided to have that be the chapter. When I came back to this one, I ended up extending things as originally, there wasn't a chase scene, but I felt it would help hype up these two seemingly bad dudes. As for the next chapter, I've got a huge lore dump planned, since Hagemi will be telling Okisato all he wished to know.

Author's Commentary #780:

Time to talk about Chapter 780: Důras Déjà vu.
I wasn't planning on finishing the whole game so soon, but once I started writing, I didn't stop until the game was done. And since the game is done, I can talk about it in detail.

First off, the game was played against Chess.com's 2999-rated The Ringmaster bot. I wasn't expecting the game to go so well or be under 50 moves, but with the en passant and the brilliant knight sacrifice on move 38, I knew this one was a winner. As for why I had Okisato play the Důras Gambit, or rather the True Madman's Důras, it was because that was the very opening he played against Daria way back in Season 3. The parallels between Hagemi and Daria are the core of the whole match, which is why this game is easily one of my favorites.
