    Author's Commentary #382:

Time to talk about Chapter 382: An Irish encounter.
As mentioned in the previous commentary, this chapter was originally set to be the chapter that would release on St. Patrick's Day. However, I felt a chapter featuring the regular Irish gambit being played, and having Sorcha win the game with it in 7 moves was more fitting to celebrate the day. This chapter was actually written first though, in fact, both this and the previous chapter were some of the last chapters I wrote in the rest day arc before starting on the round 7 chapters.

And for more fun facts, this marks the second time in the series an Irishwoman has played the Chigorin Irish gambit and lost with it, right after an Irishwoman played the Irish gambit and won with it. To go even further, if we count the original draft of Chapter 119: Irish Chigorin countergambit, it would be the second time an Irishwoman has played said gambit against Mimoko and lost with it. It's ironic that despite the Chigorin, Irish gambit being the better of the two Irish gambits, it loses more than it's less sound counterpart.

While the Chess.com bot I played against for this match was only rated 2000, I was still surprised at how quickly it lost. Though I'm not complaining as what I got was amazing. I don't think this game will be making my top 30 favorite games in the series list, but it most certainly was one of the more fun ones to write. Now let's talk more about the new character, Saoirse.

シアーシャ・オドハティ (Saoirse O'Doherty) is how Saoirse's name would be spelled in katakana.

Her birthday is July 27th. I chose this date at random, so there's no greater significance behind why this date is her birthday.

Her favorite piece is the pawn, because like a book, it has limitless potential.

Saoirse actually came about for a few reasons. First off, while Sorcha is definitely staying bald for the entirety of the series, I really did like how her hair looked, which combined with the fact that I decided to modify Sorcha's role in this arc, led to Saoirse's creation. Her character though is heavily inspired by Shizuka Yoshimoto from The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You. She is Sorcha's younger half-sister and Ireland's sole DSPCM, hailing from Dublin. Her rating is actually 2777, making her a formidable force on the chessboard, but she is also incredibly shy when faced with large crowds. Had I thought of her earlier, I definitely would have had her be part of the Irish women's team, but since I only recently thought of her, I'll state that the reason she isn't competing is mainly due to Fidelma's antics. She is registered as the team coach though.

And now, the Irish mini-arc has concluded, but we won't be shifting back to Kisha just yet. Next up, it's time to check in on some of the folks who ended up blue thanks to the 6B blueberry juice. I hope you're looking forward to it.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #381:

Time to talk about Chapter 381: Luck of the Irish gambit.
Since St. Patrick's Day was going to fall in the middle of this arc, I decided to try and work out a St. Patrick's Day special of sorts. Naturally, the a game featuring an Irish gambit was the most fitting way to do that.

Originally, I was going to have a different chapter serve as the St. Patrick's day special, but felt this one worked better. Don't worry though, that chapter that I decided against releasing today, will in fact be the very next chapter.

As for the game, I not only wanted Sorcha to win with an Irish gambit, but also do it in 7 moves. This would not work well on a normal opponent, but luckily Abigail's an idiot, so I could get away with her blundering like this.

Speaking of St. Patrick's Day, me trying to write a chapter that could also serve as a St. Patrick's Day special ended up leading to me making a significant change in my original plans for the story. Originally, Sorcha was just going to be present in Budapest just to stand guard over Ina, but now she's actually competing while also standing guard. She's competing for Northern Ireland as it's sole representative, which makes sense since Northern Ireland is part of the UK, meaning the Fairy league has full control over it. A fun fact is that Northern Ireland didn't actually field a men's or women's team for the 45th Chess Olympiad. Just goes to show that not everything will mirror the real-life event, but then again, our world is already way different from the one in this series.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #380:

Time to talk about Chapter 380: The troubles of talking about twins and triplets.
Originally, the chapter was just meant to highlight all the sets of twins and triplets competing in the tournament, however, it ended up becoming a game chapter instead. Don't worry, there will be a chapter highlighting all the twins and triplets that weren't mentioned in this chapter. Now onto the game.

It's been a while since there was a 3-check game in the series, so I felt it was time to have another one be shown off. This also worked out well due to how short 3-check games generally are, making it perfect for the me of the past, who wanted to just churn out chapters to buildup a might backlog. That isn't to say all the games featured before round 7 will be short. In fact, there are a few games that will be over 15 moves, but those will come a little later down the line.

But one thing to note is that thanks to everyone's favorite Õnne-chan, Kisha's show will be taking a short break, meaning these next few chapters will shift focus over to some of the other characters. And in this segment, not only will there be some games, but character interactions, fanservice, and lore drops too, all in addition to some developments on a certain plotpoint in the story. Speaking of the story, we're now 20 chapters away from reaching 400 chapters. I honestly can't believe how fast it's been, nor did I expect this milestone to occur before even the 7th round will conclude, but I guess that's thanks to the Bermuda party arc. As always, look forward to a fanservicey chapter to celebrate that milestone, and thank you for all the support you've given this series.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #379:

Time to talk about Chapter 379: Maestros galore.
This is a short one, so short in fact I might go back and edit it to include some more content. But at least for now, it highlights the maestros as well as who's closest to beating all of them.

To the surprise of none, Peter, Okisato, and Mimoko are in the lead, though that's largely due to the fact that it's a challenge just to gain the ability to even challenge a maestro. Some players such as Iori, Noa, Zsa Zsa, Laura, Red Reaper, Tsar Grigori, Govindrao, Arun, and even Diederich, Hubert, Maccabee, and Miralem all have the potential to beat a maestro or two as do many others. That being said, beating a maestro not named Xiao Lin is no easy task, and even then, while Xiao Lin is the weakest maestro and resident jobber of the series, she is still a maestro. The strongest maestro on the other hand, is easily Amelia with Daria being a close second. In fact, I'll list all the maestros by strength and rating.

At number 7 is Xiao Lin, rated 3020. Not only is she the lowest rated maestro, but also the weakest. Number 6 is Wiley Frisch, rated 3050. In his prime, he was far more formidable, but age is catching up. Despite that, he's still better than a majority of the field, but there's a chance an up and coming youngster can get the better of him occasionally. At number 5 is Alexandre Belieu, rated 3100. He's pretty much average in terms of all the maestros, with his greatest strength being his ability to find winning lines not even the most advanced chess engines at the time could find. Number 4 belongs to the one maestro that has yet to be properly introduced. Their rating is 3250, yet despite being higher-rated than Daria, they are far weaker than her and have never beaten her in a game, only getting their rating simply due to how the maestro project played out. There is more to why they're only at the number 4 spot, but I still have to refine that plotpoint, so that's the end of discussion for this maestro. At number 3 is Ian Kimovich, rated 3151. He's come close to beating Daria and Amelia, but the best he can do against them is draw. At number 2 is Daria, rated 3200. She needs no introduction as her feats are already known. And number 1 is Amelia, rated 3300. Amelia's currently the only maestro that has never lost to anyone in a non-practice match. That being said, she's never been able to beat Daria, with the two drawing at every encounter they have. When they eventually face each other in the tournament, expect a grand spectacle of peak chess.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.
