Ah, it's still going on. If only someone had a DESPER, things would be far less chaotic. I actually am wondering how the game could have gone if things had continued normally.

So it looks like things have descended to chaos. Sadly, this means that as a chess game, I'm probably going to have to give this a 1/10. To be fair, I do feel I'm harsher than most when it comes to judging chess games. Even with the d-pawns offing each other, I feel you still could have had the game continue normally. The main problem is that following the incident, no specific moves are given, so it's hard to follow the game. Ultimately, it doesn't matter as things turn chaotic anyway. Sadly this chapter will probably become my least favorite in the book by default because of it. That being said, a more thematic than not chess game doesn't ruin a story for me. I'm still enjoying the main plot of this one and will do my best to finish so I can get on to Vol 4 and be caught up with everything.

Hmm, I'm actually not a fan of pieces having a mind of their own. As for the game, before things got wonky, the opening played was a Queen's Pawn Opening: Chigorin, Richter Variation. It gives a -0.6 edge to Black, but is still within even territory just barely. I've never actually used that opening for a game yet. As for this game, I'll wait to see how it ends before giving my final verdict.

I'm honestly wondering what might happen if Akio isn't able to stop Misaki from seriously hurting someone. To be honest, I could even see a potential antagonist trying to goad Misaki into hurting them simply for martyrdom or to make her unable to escape the path of violence.

Author's Commentary #609:

Time to talk about Chapter 609: Halloween Gambit.
I've waited a year for this, but finally, I can have a Halloween special on Halloween, featuring a Halloween Gambit. Sure, I had the opportunity to do so a year ago, but as stated before, it was only early September in-universe, and I didn't just want to skip around. Now for some fun stats. As expected, there have been 365 chapters since the last Halloween chapter which was Chapter 244: Happy Halloween Gambit. Because of said chapter's name, this chapter is purely, Halloween Gambit. It makes sense given what's going on in the chapter.

And of course, you can't get more thematic than a Halloween Gambit on Halloween night on Halloween night in-universe too. Considering the game was also 31 moves further adds to its flare. And speaking of theatrics, the bot I played against on Chess.com was the 2725-rated Anatoly bot, which was made in collaboration to promote Chess the Musical. This also served as the basis for Korb's rating being in the 2700s and him being a grandmaster.

Now, much like Mimoko, I can rest easy knowing the Halloween chapter I wanted to line up so perfectly has been achieved. And who better to quote when I say, Happy Halloween to all.
