I'm not going to lie. My brain rebelled a few times while writing present tense. It just would switch to past tense in the middle of a sentence, and then when I tried to correct it, gaslight me into thinking that it was no longer a proper sentence. It's hard to reject everything you were ever taught growing up.
I tried switching to first-person present in an attempt to shake myself out of a writing slump. It worked in that I'm writing again. Unfortunately, it only worked for new projects. Still stuck on the stuff I really want to write.
I had a less extreme version of this when I visited Japan. It was a long time ago. Before 9/11, when you could walk up to the gate without a ticket. (One of the in-flight movies even involved a plane almost crashing into a building.) I thought Tokyo would be more high-tech than it really was. I was disappointed to see that they still used told technology too. I got over it quickly. The only authentic part of this story was how much I loved eating udon.
But most importantly, thanks for reading, and thanks for the feedback! It's really heartening to hear that you think I've improved, at least a bit.
