I have a few questions and criticisms if you don't mind.
Shouldn't the village have seen the approaching Kaltor army and ran? Or at least warned everyone? It seemed like Vatra just woke up, got to work and poof. The Kaltor are killing everyone.

One criticism I have so far is that your synonym choice seems to be rather weak. I don't really get the feel that Vatra is all that desperate from the synonym choice.

That's all I've got for now. I'ma keep reading.
