you know, when I first started this story, I thought of a happy-go-lucky comedic satire that mocks the usual isekai tropes with its protagonist. I certainly did not expect explorations of human morals and an emissary from hell, Truckman. Though I don't mind this development :)

(So I waited a bit because there was a chance there would be an epilogue so now I’m doing the comment)

For its (in)famy (?) I was drawn into GEP, and I’ll say it right now: I am not disappointed one bit for that. What looks to be a cheap knockoff of the whole “elite school” trope turned out to be something a lot more. The tropes were pushed to their absolute limit to become the satirical wonder it is, but within that satire is another layer of underlying, real problems that I’ve seen for myself in a typical Asian school. The level of symbolism in GEP is unmatched, but perhaps it’s hidden a bit *too* well within your writing. Now, don’t get me wrong, I personally enjoy it a lot, but I feel like a problem that arose from the overly quippy and ridiculous style of writing is that it creates a major division between the readers - they love it or hate it, no in-between. And the fact that its dialogue is never-so-serious only further masks its main themes.

All in all, my opinion about GEP hasn’t changed from the start of my journey through it. Some might say it’s only s COTE-ripoff, some might say it’s too ridiculous to be taken seriously, but if people can go past that and really dig deep into its themes, they’ll find a hidden gem (for a lack of better words, ironic considering GEP’s popularity) of a story that they’d never realized otherwise.

One of the first entries I’ve read in this contest, the entry I joked about being in “reverse clickbait hell” due to its unfinished cover back then and the mouthful of a title only to be hit with what I could only described as immaculate writing, this story has been quite a dear to me. I’m a sucker for deep, profound themes (even if I myself fail to catch those sometimes), and that is a strength that FICTION has in plenty. Each chapter feels like a complete package of individual stories with their own little life lesson, while everything still manages to combine together for a perfect blend of a bigger picture. I’m sure I still missed a lot of things too with all the dots you’ve laid out, and I love every single bit of that fact.

If there’s anything that I have to be nitpicky about, it’s the overall lack of cyberpunk elements in the story. The first few chapters at first had some, but the later it went the less I saw, and tbh, the less it needed. It really feels more like a case of skirting around the prompt instead of playing to its strength.

Nonetheless, FICTION is still an incredibly well-written piece, and a hidden gem if I do say so myself. Totally worth the time to check out (now if only it can escape the reverse clickbait hell it’s in)
