Author's Commentary #79:

Time to talk about Chapter 79: Waki's birthday.
Waki is honestly the character I tend to forget the most about when writing Spice of life. This chapter, however, gives some much needed insight into both her backstory and inner thoughts.

The chapter initially starts out comedic, but as it goes on, it quickly highlights just what exactly Waki's worldview is and why she's so infatuated with Matcha. While I've never really sat down and thought about what my top 10 favorite chapters are in this series, I think this chapter would easily make the list.

While I did include this as a bonus chapter in the original Spice of life, this chapter was fully intended to be remake original which is why it flows better here. Plus, Waki will be getting a lot more character development in the remake so look forward to that.

Author's Commentary #78:

Time to talk about Chapter 78: The shadowy council.
This chapter is meant to serve as an intro for I.L.U./Illumous, though the intention was that it would be not specifically for this series, but the Jouzu-verse as a whole.

Many of the councilors appeared as antagonists in the original Escape Witch, and will likely reappear in the Escape Witch remake. Some even appeared in Mystery ghost foresight. In this series though, only a few will actually be shown in full.

Author's Commentary #77:

Time to talk about Chapter 77: Emeri the hacker.
Emeri finally gets her chance to shine here. In Escape Witch, Emeri did do some hacking, however, the full extent of her abilities wasn't properly shown. Here, I can offer a bit more of a glimpse into how skilled at hacking she truly is.

Like the other Escape Witch characters, I really enjoy writing her in more slice of life scenarios here in Spice of life, and like the other two main heroines, she'll quickly become a recurring character in the series. As for Serika, I promise she will have some amazing chapters, but sadly, those will be a ways off.

As for Rebelle, she once again takes another loss, and assumes Mimi is her kryptonite. Rebelle losing her blackmail will also make things easier on Rika and Masaru, as now Rebelle and Ookuma, have lost the leverage they had over them, and had all their devices compromised. Emeri truly is a force to be reckoned with in the digital world. The physical world, not so much.

One final thing I'll mention is that at this point in the timeline, Madoka and Emeri are unaware that they are actually biological cousins. Emeri also doesn't live in the Ginkawa mansion yet, though will once she eventually graduates high school. Gozaemon, however, does know that she is his granddaughter which is why he treats her like one. Harumi also knows, but keeps it secret from Madoka, though she does eventually tell her when Emeri moves into the mansion.

Author's Commentary #76:

Time to talk about Chapter 76: Catering at the Ginkawa mansion.
The Ginkawa mansion finally makes it's debut in the story. First off, the "mansion" more or less resembles the island that houses the advanced nurturing high school from Classroom of the elite, except the whole island is considered to be the mansion. In fact, the advanced nurturing high school was the biggest inspiration for the Ginkawa mansion. Now let's talk a bit about Gnoreville.

Gnoreville actually originates from one of my Shiruka sensei short stories, Four very bloody sentences to be precise. He's actually based off of the Vinesauce character, Gnorts.

ノールビル (Gnoreville) is how his name is spelled in katakana.

His birthday is May 12th which is also Vinny Vinesauce's birthday.

As for the Ginkawa milk, it is based off of the Chateau Romani milk from The Legend of Zelda Majora's mask. This was what actually led me to decide to make Gnoreville and his buddies servants working for the Ginkawa family, as I thought it would be a neat to have the aliens raising the cows unlike in the game where the aliens are trying to abduct the cows. Ginkawa milk is not commercially available like Chateau Romani is in in the game.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this previously, but the Ginkawa mansion is located within the Tokyo bay and is so close to Ryokoma that it can be reached by boat. This means that Ryokoma borders the Tokyo bay and the story takes place in Tokyo. Bay-side seating at the restaurant is also planned, along with boat seating, meaning that there is a dock at Ryokoma. This means the Ginkawas can commute to and from the restaurant and their mansion via boat. Since Mimi is now going to be living at the mansion, she'll primarily be commuting to and from it and the mansion via boat.

Author's Commentary #75:

Time to talk about Chapter 75: Helga's birthday and Obon.
When I decided to do a remake of the series, one thing I wanted to make sure I did was include dedicated birthday chapters for the major characters. Helga will be the first.

The general rule at Ryokoma, is that if it's your birthday, you get the day off and get treated to your favorite meal. Helga's favorite meal is filet-mignon, and while Mimi's never made it before, she decided to learn so that she could make it for Helga as a birthday present.

The birthday chapters also feature more character development for the character in focus, which was another reason I decided to write them. I did include all the birthday chapters in the original Spice of life as bonus chapters, but they were all made primarily for the remake. I hope you enjoy reading these chapters when they pop up in the story.

Author's Commentary #122:

Time to talk about Chapter 122: The aggressive Alien gambit.
There was one think Iori really wanted to do while she looked like an alien, and that was to play the Alien gambit. She ended up getting her wish thanks to Muirchertach.

The Alien gambit itself is a pretty solid gambit which was created by content creator Witty_Alien. The gambit is aggressive and fun to play, which is why I wanted there to be game featuring it in the series. As such, I enjoyed writing this game.

As for the story, both Iori and Carol now have hair again just like Mimoko. The three are also now out of London, however, they ended up being transported to America instead. This is because Muirchertach sneakily made the prize for winning the three being warped to Carol's bunaidh home. In Irish, bunaidh means "original" thus, the prize was warping the three to Carol's original home, which is in America. This means the game against the Fairy league comes to a halt, though it will probably resume when Okisato and co land in London.

For the next few chapters though, things will focus on Iori's group. Though since they are in America, expect them to encounter some of the American SPCMs. Though first, they need to get their bearings and find out where exactly in America they all are.

Author's Commentary #74:

Time to talk about Chapter 74: Gaming with Masaru.
This is a remake original chapter though I ended up including it in the original Spice of life as a bonus chapter. It's essentially a nice slice of life chapter featuring Masaru and Itsuki getting introduced to gaming

Masaru naturally complains about the cooking game and believes it's an insult to cooking. Gorman Randy is obviously a parody of Gordan Ramsay. He actually appeared in the original and was originally the one to challenge Makihara to a funnel cake cook-off. Here, he makes a cameo as a game character, though he might make another cameo again in the series.

ゴーマン・ランディ (Gorman Randy) is how his name is spelled in katakana. While he's obviously a Gordan Ramsay parody, he's also a reference to the Gorman brothers from The Legend of Zelda series.

His birthday is November 8th, which he shares with Gordan Ramsay.

His favorite food is Shepherd's pie.

As for Itsuki, she had never played a video game before due to her sheltered life growing up. When she did play, she quickly became addicted and is surprisingly good at arcade shooters. She returns to normal after being separated from the arcade machine for 5 minutes, but her gamer persona returns the moment she sits back down at it. Once she's at the arcade, it's hard to get her away from it, meaning it usually falls on Rika to drag her away since she's physically the strongest of everyone at Ryokoma. Not to mention, she's fully to blame for unleashing gamer Itsuki upon the world.

Author's Commentary #73:

Time to talk about Chapter 73: Rika and Reika.
In the original, this chapter took place immediately after Yuugen's introduction. Here, it happens much later. As such, some of the dialogue has been changed, though the chapter remains mostly the same. Perhaps the most notable change though is the fact that Masaru's now present for the conversation.

Funnily enough, Reika technically made her debut back in Chapter 9, as she was the middle school girl that was in the car with Reiju. As previously mentioned, that arc was originally part of Mystery ghost foresight. Reika was also meant to be a recurring character in that series, but I stopped writing that series. However, I feel like a Mystery ghost foresight rewrite is becoming more and more likely, mainly because I decided on what to do with Reiju's character.

Finally, Reika's favortie food is officially confirmed to be honey pancakes. She's always enjoyed pancakes, and when she combined them with honey, she fell in love with the taste.

Author's Commentary #72:

Time to talk about Chapter 72: An irredeemable woman.
The reason why Rika hate Ookuma so much has finally been revealed. And it's completely understandable why Rika hates her so much; she tricked her into killing innocent people. This event is what ultimately caused Rika to hate her assassin roots.

One other important thing this chapter does is introduce Mao Ookuma. Unlike other characters, I won't be doing a bio on her immediately. The reason for that will become clear as the story progresses. For now, all I'll reveal about her is that her birthday is August 31st, and that if you read Escape Witch remake, you'll know who she is.

Author's Commentary #71:

Time to talk about Chapter 71: The one Rika hates more than anyone.
As stated in the previous commentary, this was originally meant to be the point in the story where Masaru would learn about Rika's past. However, I modified things in the remake, though despite him already knowing of Rika's past, the chapter is otherwise almost identical to the original.

One major change though is the fact that Reika is physically present at the gathering. In the original, she was sent away overseas and had her assistant attend the meeting dressed as her. I decided to rewrite Reika's role in the remake though which is why she's introduced much later in the story compared to the original, though her initial interaction with Rika will be very similar to how it was in the original. Now let's talk about Reika as well as Zerin.

湯詰怜佳 (Yuzume Reika) is how her name is spelled in kanji. Her first name, 怜佳, means "wise" and "beautiful", which is fitting since she was one of the smartest characters in the series. Her surname, 湯詰, means "hot spring" and "investigate".

Her birthday is January 5th which is also the date the first chapter of Detective Conan released.

Her favorite food will be revealed in the upcoming chapters, however, if you read the Escape Witch remake, you'll know what her favorite food is. Rest assured, I'll properly reveal her favorite food when it's mentioned two chapters from now.

中山是林 (Nakayama Zerin) is how her name is spelled in kanji. 是林 means "correct" and "forest" while 中山 means "inside" and "mountain".
(If I made any mistakes with the translations, feel free to correct me).

Her birthday is March 4th. I chose the date at random so there's no significance as to why this date is her birthday.

Her favorite food is coffee.

Zerin is easily one of my most hated characters. She's an Ookuma fanatic and seeks to reshape the country to match Ookuma's vision of it. Like Reika, she originates from Escape Witch.

This chapter also gives a taste of how Ookuma truly works. She's a ruthless woman that will do whatever it takes to get her way. Though the next chapter will truly show how vile and irredeemable she can truly be.

Author's Commentary #70:

Time to talk about Chapter 70: Demon from the past.
The moment has finally happened, Ookuma has entered Rika's life once more. This time she's come to Ryokoma alongside a group of other political leaders. Things might seem fine for now, but they're likely to escalate quickly. Speaking of Ookuma, I don't think I gave her bio here, so here it is.

大熊瑠智 (Ookuma Ruchi) is how her name is spelled in kanji. Her first name, 瑠智, means "lapis lazuli" and "intelligent", while 大熊 means "big" and "bear". The reason I chose the surname Ookuma was because it sounds similar to the Japanese word for demon, Akuma. Funnily enough, the head of the Ookuma family is named Akuma.

Her birthday is September 1st, which is actually the day after Serika's birthday. Funnily enough, Fubuki Dakota's birthday is February 2nd, which is a day after Yuni's birthday.

Her favorite food is Le bonnotte potatoes which are some of the most expensive potatoes in the world.

In the original, this was originally where Masaru learned about Rika's past, however, I ended up changing things up, mainly because I wanted all the conflict to be resolved in Season 1, and because I felt it was better narratively for Rika's family to be the ones that reveal her past to Masaru.

Author's Commentary #69:

It's time to talk about Chapter 69: Ichika's scheme.
As promised, I made sure to have this chapter be worthy of being the 69th chapter. Ichika and Nino are back and they end up naked again.

But that's not all, Ichika decides to sneak into Ryokoma and hypnotize Rika, but ends up hypnotizing herself and having to dance from opening to closing nude. And poor Nino naturally got dragged into this with her.

The good news is that their relationship with Rika is gradually improving, though they still consider her a traitor. Now the duo function more like comedic villains, though ironically, they won't have too many more appearances in the story.
